Where is home? The ancient migrations of Swallows & Swifts

Spring has arrived, and if we are lucky enough to spot barn swallows or swifts swoop through the sky, we are invited to pause and reflect on the endurance of the natural world—and consider our own place within it.

Every year, swallows and swifts journey up to 6,000 miles between Scotland and Africa, following ancient migration routes that link continents and ecosystems, showing how deeply all life is connected across distance and time. They overwinter in Africa, return to the UK in spring, and depart again each autumn, tracing the turning of the seasons across two continents.

Their cyclical journey invites us to reflect: where, and what, is home?
